Something I noticed when spec'ing out my priest this morning -- I was unable to spend points in any other tree except the one I picked.  So here's what I experienced after this most recent build:

After selecting your primary tree, you then go to the following screen:

A few points to note -- a) Once you pick your primary tree, the icon for your tree automatically gets selected (as you can see the guardian spirit icon in my talent tab) and b) You are forced to select talents in the tree with which you've selected.   This means once you "Choose your Specialization" you must then go back to the trainer to retrain a new tree regardless if you've spent any points yet.

Notice in the above picture I've spent 30 points, still needing one point to spend to pick up my 31 point talent -- Guardian Spirit.  More importantly, you'll notice the talents of the other trees are grayed out.  This means, you won't be able to spend points in other trees, until you've spent 31 points in the tree you selected to specialize in.  This is interesting and disturbing as this really forces us to spend 31 points in the tree of our choosing and prevents us from creating a highly hybrid tree.  Keep in mind this is early beta, but it's interesting these "talent/tree locks" are in place in game.

Once I spent my 31st point to pick up Guardian Spirit, then the talents in the other 2 trees become available for selecting:

Finally, we have our fully spent spec:

I just thought I'd share with you how the talent tree interface currently exists.  I'm sure MMO-Champ will cover this in another of it's Cataclysm Interface Changes.

Additionally, as a side note, I think it's bullshit as a priest that we are forced to pick up one of the shittiest talents (Lightwell) just to get one of the cool new talents for the Holy tree (Chakra)

The druid one is like... well there's two ways to look at it:
- You're going to see a Bear who has all the same talents as a Cat, and is thus grossly overpowered.
or
- You're going to see them release a talent tree in a future build that looks very different, and adds 'bloat' talents.

The one thing that stands out, though, is that there's really no spec variation left in most of these (maybe in the pure classes?). In WLK, like right now, I can make a choice between 30% swipe damage or a slow or a raid on-crit heal, etc. The way this looks right now, there's just ... you take the obvious 0/31/10 or 0/32/9 and go.

Yeah, it is really really easy to figure out a good talent tree spec for dps/tank/pvp but I am left feeling bored by the choices I made.  Having no wiggle room is a little disappointing.

I'm 100% sure it helps the "non-raider" crowd out, but I'm a raider, so to me, this is bland.

Resto is in a similar state.  If you avoid pvp talents, then there is only one build: Take all non pvp resto talents except perseverance which you pretty much have to take, moonglow, NG, and genesis.  I don't see any wiggle room.

So after looking through most of these, it does seem like their are alot of cookie cutter specs. Especially affliction locks, they have 11 talent points between the first two tiers

Also, it looks like they are encouraging healers to through damage spells when noone needs healing, especially priest/shaman who can generate mana from doing it.

Yay for the 10% sp buff being based off of personal spell power?

Also I didn't see anything new for fire mages?

Are prot pallies really getting a ~40 second consecrate  Huh

Wonder if fury will end up being 2 2-handers or 2 1-handers

Yeah 40 seconds or 30 seconds, somewhere around there.  D&D remains unchanged with a 10 second up time.  Fuck blizzard.

Bland is the word.

When i'm not healing, drop LBs and shocks? ok...    :-(

But seriously, not excited at all about talent tree overhaul.

Thankfully it is 1 unholy now.  It makes it easier on us and I have gotten used to tanking with D&D as it is.  I just don't see the reasoning for the consecration duration buff other than knobslobbing the paladin class.

Omega,

Were you able to put points into both of the other two trees once you fulfilled the 31 pt requirement in your primary tree?

Hi, this is Blizzard, we just wanted to make sure that fucktards running messed up talents like ret/holy or arpen/rupturetick rogues and leveling noobs without the wherewithal to realize that deep talents are the meat and potatoes of talent speccing and therefore shall limit their fucktardedness as much as possible.  We will be enabling Single Tier Talent Trees in the future to prevent any wrong builds at all in the future.  Stay posted for more details.
